A1) Triazolidin-3-(thi)ones Y = O / (S)
General Introduction

REACTION OVERVIEW

Triazolidin-3-ones (2, Y = O) and -3-thiones (2,Y = S) are easily accessible by the CYCLOADDITION REACTION of phenylhydrazones (1) and IN SITU GENERATED cyanic acid and thiocyanic acid, respectively. Oxidation of these heterocyclic systems (2) (e.g. with potassium permanganate) induces a reaction cascade that can be envisaged as an OXIDATIVE REARRANGEMENT leading to the formation of triazolin-3-ones (3, Y = O) and triazoline-3-thiones (3, Y = S), respectively.
