The Golden Moment: What role should authors play?
- Project SPECTRa established a
Golden Moment when authors have to hand the
appropriate data and its context (metadata) from their
research
-
but which never makes it into their authoring process
- because its too difficult (Hand-crafted RDF?)
- There are no tools for the job
- Publishers neither request (value) nor process
it
-
If we are lucky, it ends up as Electronic Supporting
information
- The term electronic relates merely to mode
of delivery, not to machine processability
- Although some exceptions, i.e. Web-enhanced-objects, DOI: 10.1021/ja061400a
- Or it may be (expensively, and lossily) recovered by
the Primary/Tertiary Publishers own processes
- Author pays for what they had in the first place but threw
away!
