The functions of each module

1. The Web-based organiser (ELN) establishes the identity of the researcher using ORCID
   • We have already implemented full ORCID authentication into our Web-based organiser (ELN) via a user profile
   • We are exploring the use of Symplectic as a UG/PG portal for controlled ORCID assignment
2. Our Web-based organiser (uportal ELN) establishes:
   • trust between it and the DSpace persistent public repository
   • trust between it and the Figshare persistent public repository
3. uportal ELN workflows a researcher's activity via binding to e.g. the HPC job scheduler
4. uportal ELN collects/generates metadata describing each experiment (computation) via:
   • Date stamps for all activity (as metadata)
   • Workflows for generating metadata: the InChI key and InChi identifier for molecular data
   • Workflows for generating different syntactical representations of the data for maximum user utility
5. The DSpace persistent public repository stores/curates the outputs and their metadata as discrete objects in OAI-PMH-compliant form
   • assigns one or more unique persistent identifiers to each object (Handle manager and DataCite )
   • Implements a (proposed) standard (10320/loc records) for creating machine-actionable landing pages.
   • Implements standards for metadata harvesting (DataCite)
   • Implements standards for resource synchronisation across repositories (SWORD).
