Dear Watoc members,

Some (many?) of you will have been watching the development of a new
concept in conferences, the "ECCC".
For your information, the first "virtual" conference ECCC attracted 79 papers,
around 300 registrants, and on the first day even a lively discussion of the
papers. I do believe the event will be declared a success. Point to note:
total cost of conference, virtually zero!! Scientific merit: Not bad, although
could be better. Certainly improving! Worth doing again? Certainly!!
By 1996, this will all be old hat! But, none of us have had the pleasure
of travel to places like Jerusalem. We have however made lots of interesting
new scientific contacts. I believe there is a place for both WATOC and ECCC.
But what the balance is, only time will tell.

In the meanwhile, perhaps we can all think about the potential for organising
something like ECCC ourselves.
