"Development of dual-modal zinc sensors and imaging probes for pancreatic beta cells"

The development of diabetes is closely associated with the loss of mass and functionality of beta cells in the pancreas. My work aims to synthesise agents which are capable of sensing zinc ions, which are abundant in these cells, as well as allowing fluorescence, MRI and PET imaging of the cells themselves.

Personal

I like to fill my free time by running and swimming, traveling whenever and wherever I can and eating a potentially unhealthy amount of cheese. EDIT: Tom is now vegan and no longer enjoys potentially unhealthy amounts of cheese.
