For this project various online resources were used. Synthetic routes and chemical information was obtained from Beilstein. NIST Chemistry Webbook was used to obtain various spectra along with SDBS and Sigma-Aldrich (links shown below).
The 3D chemical structures were provided by SciFinder and the 2D chemical structures, along with the synthetic routes, were created using ChemDraw 8. The various pictures and animations were sources through Google.
Many of the databases used, Web Of Science and Beilstein, only provided literature references. But they did provide in most cases links to the references online. SciFinder was especially useful to access references online. When they were not online it was very easy to find them Imperial College Chemistry library. Google was also used to search for chemical information but the hits received were very large and mainly irrelevant. When using the databases the more refined options of the search engines allow more selective hits to be acquired. However much of the information found on these databases was too advanced and only a few of these results were relevant to the general content of the project.
Overall, all of the online databases were useful but in some cases gave too much information. I found that I mainly used Beilstein for chemical information and synthetic routes, SciFinder for 3D models and references, Google for Images and finally the Imperial Library network to find the references. This website has been design to be simple and therefore user friendly and it has a reasonable level of information on Warfarin within it. I have tried to support the information that is presented in each page by building up the levels of understanding without including too much chemical and medical information.
