Professor Tony Barrett was educated at Imperial College London, England (B.Sc. 1973, Ph.D. 1975) where
he worked with Professor Sir Derek H.R. Barton, Nobel Laureate. He was appointed as Lecturer immediately following his Ph.D. studies
and he continued research in South Kensington until 1983. In that year he was appointed a full professor of Chemistry at
Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, USA. In 1990 he moved further west in the United States to become a full professor of
Chemistry at Colorado State University. After ten years research in the USA, he returned to Imperial College London as Head of
Organic Chemistry and subsequently Synthetic Chemistry, where he holds the positions of Glaxo Professor of Organic Chemistry and
Director of the Wolfson Centre for Organic Chemistry in Medical Science. Recently he was appointed the Sir Derek Barton Professor of Synthesis. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Academy of Medical Sciences.
