This is the region of the molecule which we think controls whether chirial recognition on a chiral column will occur. If chlorine occupies this site, normal pi-pi stacking with the chiral reagent occurs, and chiral separation can be achieved. If hydrogen occupies this site, an intermolecular hydrogen bond form to an OH group, and pi-pi stacking is decreased.
