Background and History to OMF

The OMF has a strong commitment to delivering Java applets based on open standards to aid the bio- and chemo- informatics communities. These will be freely available for download from this website and its mirror sites.

Current projects include work in both the fields of bioinformatics and the rapidly expanding area of chemoinformatics. As well as applets, the OMF will be providing libraries of commonly used algorithms, to support the development by others of applets in the scientific and technical arena.

All OMF projects will be deployed using modern technologies, with an emphasis on object orientated (OO) approaches, as it is felt that OO design and implementation fits naturally into the above two communities 'world view'.
