Fluconazole (Diflucan®),
is a new class of antifungal agent commonly used for HIV & AIDS patients.
It is a new sub-class of triazole antifungal agents and is available as
tablets for oral adminstration, as a powder for oral suspension and as
sterile solution for intravenous use in glass and in Viaflex R Plus plastic
containers.
The discovery of Diflucan (fluconazole) was a major landmark in the pharmaceutical industry, as it was the first antifungal drug to be developed that could be used both orally, for minor infections such as candidiasis, or intravenously for more serious systemic infection like cryptococccal meningitis. It is also used to prevent fungal infections in patients with malignancy who are predisposed to such infections as a result of cytotoxic chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Many germs
live in our bodies or are common in the surroundings. A healthful immune
system can reject them or can maintain them under control. Nevertheless,
the infection by VIH can debilitate the immune system. The infections that
take advantage of the weakness of the immune system call "opportunists".
The people with the VIH disease outpost can contract them.
