O8 Advanced Synthesis

The examination question for the above course will consist of designing and planning the total syntheses of a natural product. There will be two questions and you will need to answer only one. In each question the natural product will be chosen from one of the five structures shown below.

You are strongly encouraged to analyse and plan your answer to the question prior to the examination. The examination will be closed book in that you will not be allowed to use any notes or books. You should note that several of these natural products have already been totally synthesised. A redraft of an existing synthesis will score less well than original plans of your own. Feel free to discuss your synthetic planning with others in the class but remember, in the examination, everyone works alone.

This Hand-out is given on Day 1 of the class. None of these are to be discussed during the lectures.
