Canon Photocopier web interface

Documents stored in mailboxes on the copiers are viewed and downloaded via a web interface.  You need a plugin to view documents stored on the copiers.

Installing the JBIG plugin

This is available for PCs at
\\chnts1\winfiles\browser plugins and viewers\JBIG viewer
Pasting the green bit above into an Explorer window  should produce this:

jbigsetup

Double click the setup for your preferred browser.

For Mac users the plugin is on Public Utilities:printers/postscript:canon.  Run the installer from there. Unfortunately it only installs into IE, you have to copy the plugin from the IE to Netscape plugin folder.

The web interface

Go to http://canon3300.ch.ic.ac.uk or http://canon5000.ch.ic.ac.uk as appropriate.

Whever you are asked for a user name and password you should type your copier ID number and password if you have one, just as you would to access the machine itself.

buttons
These are the controls

  • Device, which contains much facinating material about the amount of paper left etc.
  • Job Status, which includes even more interesting stuff like the logs
  • Mail Box, which is the one that interests us
  • Add Func, which is the management mode.

Working with mailboxes

Click on Mail Box, then user boxes.  You will be prompted for your ID.  Enter this and you should end up here:

mailboxes

Mailboxes 0-11 are open for use by anyone.  They are not passworded.  Documents placed in them will expire after three days.  If you wish, you can take one of the remaining mailboxes and put a password on it.  Its contents will then remain private to you.

Click on a mailbox to view its contents:

Click on the document name to view its properties

docprops

Clicking on the icon in the size column opens it in a web browser.  The JBIG plugin gives you these buttons in the corner
jbigbuttons

from where you can resize, or rotate, and save as a tiff or pict image to add to a document or run through an OCR program.
