Concerning your poster on the total synthesis of Karahana
ether, you described a very efficient reduction of a mixture of
lactones into
the corresponding diols, using Ca(BH4)2. Are they any reasons why
you used this unusual reagent ? Have you observed the addition
onto the vinyl sulfoxide with other reagents ?.
