Abstract

Four -C5Me4(SiR'2R) [R' = Me, Ph; R = But, Cl, Me] metallocene derivatives of FeII,
[Fe{h-C5Me4(SiMe2But)}2] 1, [Fe{h-C5Me4(SiPh2Cl)}2] 2,
[Fe{h-C5Me4(SiMe3)}2] 3, [Fe{h-C5Me4(SiPh2Me)}2] 4,
have been prepared and characterised. Multinuclear NMR spectroscopic studies and single crystal X-ray diffraction derived molecular structures of 1 - 4 reveal metallocene structures typical of bis-cyclopentadienyl derivatives of FeII. Based on these FeII metallocenes, the significant steric demand of the -C5Me4(SiMe2But) ligand is demonstrated.
