Conclusions

We found that:
MALDI-TOF is suitable as a mild-ionization technique for mass spectrometry of organometallic complexes.
For the neutral complexes studied, parent ions were sometimes observed, and fragments from loss of ligands were observed.
For the cationic complexes studied, parent ions with little fragmentation were observed.
In general, ATT seemed to be a good matrix for MALDI-TOF spectrometry of these complexes. However, the cleanest spectra were obtained using the organometallic complex as its own matrix. If an organometallic complex absorbs laser light at 337 nm, this is the preferred way to run the experiment.
